DESCRIPTION: Starting off as a gall-like blister that is pale in contrast to the green leaf colour these blisters eventually split open to reveal a dark brown to blackish spore mass. This smut can overwinter on the root stalks. SPORES: Spores come in clusters of up to 3 and are darkish brown. Each cluster is surrounded by several sterile cells. HABITAT: On leaves and stems of Wood Anemone. SEASON: April to May. |
